SUMMARY REPORT OF THE AUGUST 21,2000 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING
CONSENT CALENDAR
1. AB #800-1 COMMISSIONER’S REPORT - The Commission unanimously accepted the
Commissioner’s Report for August 2000.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
2. AB # 800-2 PARK DEVELOPMENT STATUS REPORT - The Commission received a status
update on several park related projects including Carrillo Ranch, Zone 19 (Aviara), Dog Park,
Cannon park ADA playground equipment installation and the Cole Library re-landscaping.
3. AB # 800-3 STREET TREE POLICY - By a unanimous vote, the Commission recommended to
address any appeals resulting from the newly established Street Tree Policy during each monthly
Commission meeting by the entire Board. The recommendation was based on a six-month trial
basis; and, in lieu of the Commission addressing appeals on a quarterly basis after directing any
appeal review to a Subcommittee for initial evaluation.
*- 4. AB # 800-4 SUBCOMMITTEE APPOINTMENT - The Board unanimously endorsed
Commissioner Leo Pacheco as the Parks and Recreation Commission Representative to the
Subcommittee reviewing a proposed memorial to Charles Ledgetwood.
5. AB # 800-5 ELECTION OF PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION VICE - CHAIRPERSON
Seth Schulberg was unanimously endorsed as the Commission Vice-Chairperson for the w
remainder of the 2000 calendar year.
6. AB # 800-6 ClTYlSCHOOL SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING OF AUGUST 2,2000 - The
Commission received an update on the issues discussed at the recent City/School meeting
including information on the Dare and Resource Officer program, the Stay N Play program, Safe
Routes to School program funding and anticipated topics of discussion at future meetings.
7. AB # 800-7 COMMllTEE MEMBER APPOINTMENT / COMMUNITY ACTIVITY GRANTS
PROGRAM 2000-01 - Scott Pieratt was unanimously endorsed as the Parks and Recreation
Commission Representative to the Community Activity Grants Program Review Committee for
2000-01.
