DATE: 10/16/00 INFO TITLE : ACTION RECOMMENDED ACTION : Receive individual donations and in-kind setvices totaling Thirty-Seven Thousand, Three Hundred Seventy-Nine Dollars ($37,379) in support of the 19" Annual Carlsbad Triathlon and Seaside Celebration and recommend acceptance by the City Council. ITEM EXPLANATION : The 19'h Annual Carlsbad Triathlon and Seaside Celebration was held on July 8 and 9, 2000, at the Tamarack Surf Beach. There were 808 athletes who took part in the Carlsbad Triathlon, and over 10,000 participants attended the Seaside Celebration. The following organizations offered donations of Eleven Thousand Three Hundred Two Dollars ($1 1,302) cash, AND twenty-six thousand, seventy-seven dollars in products ($26,077) or in-kind services in support of this event: In & Out Burger (cashlfood sales) Brecht BMW (cash) Cliff Bar (cash) The Home Depot (cash) Grand Pacific Resorts (cash) Oscar's Restaurants (cash/food sales) Culligan Water (water) Nytro Sports (athlete water bottles) Triathlete Magazine (advertising) Cliff Bar (energy food) Carlsbad Arts Office (Rad Hatter Crafts) North County Children's Museum (kid's crafts) Birch Aquarium (advertising) Pick up Sticks (volunteer lunches) Grand Pacific Resorts (pro athlete roomsNlP Banquet) Home Depot (300 kids crafts) Budget trucks (24' stake bed truck rental) Best Western Hotel (officials rooms) North County Times (advertising) Albertson's Market (watermelons) Driscoll Strawberry Assoc. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost associated with the donated services and products offset the actual cost of providing this special event. In order to maintain the caliber, integrity and notoriety that currently exists for the Carlsbad Triathlon, the cost of providing the donated products, goods and services is an expense which would otherwise be required of the General Fund. All cash donations have been deposited into revenue accounts. EXHIBITS: 1.
