RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Receive individual donations and in-kind setvices totaling Thirty-Seven Thousand, Three Hundred
Seventy-Nine Dollars ($37,379) in support of the 19" Annual Carlsbad Triathlon and Seaside
Celebration and recommend acceptance by the City Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
The 19'h Annual Carlsbad Triathlon and Seaside Celebration was held on July 8 and 9, 2000, at
the Tamarack Surf Beach. There were 808 athletes who took part in the Carlsbad Triathlon, and
over 10,000 participants attended the Seaside Celebration.
The following organizations offered donations of Eleven Thousand Three Hundred Two Dollars
($1 1,302) cash, AND twenty-six thousand, seventy-seven dollars in products ($26,077) or in-kind
services in support of this event:

- Letters of appreciation have been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department to all of the above
listed businesses and organizations whose generousity was greatly appreciated.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with the donated services and products offset the actual cost of providing this
special event. In order to maintain the caliber, integrity and notoriety that currently exists for the
Carlsbad Triathlon, the cost of providing the donated products, goods and services is an expense
which would otherwise be required of the General Fund. All cash donations have been deposited
into revenue accounts.
