DATE: 3/19/01 I LETTERS REQUESTING ADDITIONAL I SWIM COMPLEX 0 ACTION STAFF: BEVERLY RECOMMENDED ACTION : Accept and file or direct staff accordingly. - ITEM EXPLANATION : Since the January Commission meeting, staff has received three individual letters addressed to the Parks and Recreation Commission. The letters were submitted by Carlsbad residents and were also submitted to City staff and City Council. The content of the letters relate to the individuals request to construct an additional Swim Complex within Carlsbad. In years past, it has been the procedure of the Parks and Recreation Commission to include all similar letters within the Consent Calendar of the Commission Agenda. In that manner, any letter could be pulled from the Commission Agenda to be discussed by the Commission if any member so desired. In that respect, it helps facilitate the processing of any request in a timelier manner should the Commission choose to act upon it. Conversely, the alterative to including similar letters within the agenda would be to mail the letters to individual Commission members as the department receives them. Commission members could then request the item be placed on the agenda at the next meeting. Unless otherwise directed by the Commission, staff will continue to process similar letters within the Consent Calendar of the Commission Agenda. Only letters specifically requesting to be addressed by the Commission will be placed under Departmental Reports. EXHIBITS: 1. Letter from Michael Marsden - February 5, 2001 2. Letter from Mary M. Commissioners: I am writing on behalf of my family to address the issue of an additional swimming pool in Carlsbad. Please take the time to put the 50-meter swimming pool on the CIP budget for hs year. I think all that the City Council does is important. Please take a moment to include hs important issue in your plan. With the ever-growing number of houses built each year in our city, we would only benefit from a 50- meter pool.
