ITEM EXPLANATION :
In June 2000, a City team was assigned the task of making Zone 5 park a reality. Staff has
reviewed several different park elements, gone on various field trips to gather ideas, and have
developed concept designs for the park. In addition, we have put together an outline for the
outreach program.
As part of the process in developing an outreach program, the tead has constructed 2 rough
conceptual park designs to illustrate the potential of that facility. Attached are the designs
(Exhibits 1 and 2). Possible elements identified within, these designs include a future fitness
center, athletic field, outdoor basketball courts, miniature golf putting course, walking and jogging
trails, etc. Please note that these designs are only conceptual, and are designed to begin
conversation with the business community. Our hope is that through the outreach program, we I
will be able to harvest the wants and desires of the business community and various
stakeholders. The design process will be a core function of the outreach program.
The Outreach program is designed to do several different things. It will:

o Enlist the participation of the business community to develop the park and it's content
o Serve as public information vehicle
o Provide the opportunity to the business community to help'kupport the development of the

park financially (potential privatization)
Staff will begin with a series of meetings with the more significant employers in Zones 5, 13, and
16.. From these meetings we want to solicit their support to help Gs Tn developing the "What" of
the park. This support will come in the form of company representatives that will participate in
the development of the project design. ..
This park affords the City a unique opportunity to work in conjunction with the businesses towbuild
s park that is designed by them to be used by them. Once we have defined who will participate,
Me will spend the next several months developing a consensus and recommendation as to what
sttributes the park should consist of.
