RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Receive a presentation on bocce ball and consider the possibility of including such a facility in a
City park. Direct staff accordingly.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
The North County Italian Association has requested the opportunity to make a presentation on
bocce ball and the possibility of including such a facility in a City park.

The North County Italian Association was founded 3 years ago and has grown to a
over 100 members. More than 33% of our members reside in the Carlsbad area with
many more having ofices or working in Carlsbad. We have sponsored a booth at the
La Dolce Vita event sponsored by the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club, had family
barbeques at several of the Carlsbad parks, and sponsor a yearly scholarship which
encompasses the whole North County with the preponderance of the applications
coming from students living in the Carlsbad area.
We understand that the City of Carlsbad is considering building several new parks
and we would like to petition the Park Department to consider putting Bocce courts in
the parks. We have found a growing interest in the game of Bocce in Del Mar,
Poway, Vista and other cities having courts and tournaments. We are presently
playing at the Brengle Terrace Park in Vista. We believe the Bocce courts would
enhance the visibility of the parks and would bring additional revenue to the Park and
publicity to the City of Carlsbad. The North County Italian Association would help
provide assistance in the court layout (manual labor) to aid in the timely completion
of the parks.
We would appreciate the opportunity to speak before the Park DepartmenVCity
Council to make our needs known.
