RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Receive donation and recommend acceptance by City Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
On August 11, 2003, the City received a donation of artifacts and memorabilia related to Leo and
Toni Carrillo, as well as Carrillo Ranch. The donation was a generous gift of Ms. Dawn Amos of
Carbondale, IL. Ms. Amos is the daughter of Francine Delpy. In 1961 Toni Carrillo married
Frank "Buster" Delpy, Francine's father. The donation was made in memory of her mother,
Francine Delpy.
Ms. Amos has asked that should any of these items be relinquished from the Carrillo Ranch
Archives prior to her death, that they be returned to her rather than sold or discarded.
The following items were received by the Carrillo Ranch Archives:
1. Trio of miniature glass flowered vases
2. Green demitasse cup and saucer
3. Painted glass sofa and table, and assorted dog figurines
4. Kerosene metal train/carriage lantern
5. Ceramic forget-me-not covered bowl
6. The California I Love, signed by Toni Carrillo
7. Painted glass tray
8. Tooled and painted leather book cover
9. Matching glass lamp and shade painted in western theme
10. Enamel cigarette case, lighter and compact
11. Custom purple sequin-appliqued parade costume with split riding skirt
12. Small green watch that was once owned by Toni Carrillo
Ms. Amos appraised the value of the collection at $5,000.
In addition to the above artifact collection, on August 16, 2003, a collection bowl was set out for
public donation at the Carrillo Ranch Historic Park Dedication festivities. The Ranch Trust Fund
received a total of $125. The donations collected were deposited into the Carrillo Ranch Trust
Fund.
The Recreation Department wishes to gratefully acknowledge the efforts of Joan and Alan
Kindle, and the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc. in securing the aforementioned donations.

Re: Donation for Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park
Dear Ms. Amos:
On behalf of the City of Carlsbad, I would like to extend my most sincere
appreciation for your very generous donation of artifacts and memorabilia to the
Carrillo Ranch Archives. Thanks in large part to gifts such as yours the City will be
better able to bring the wonderful history of Carrillo Ranch alive for the visiting
public.
It was a pleasure meeting you at our special preview event and Grand Opening. I
hope your trip to Carlsbad was an enjoyable one, and you enjoyed the dedication
ceremony, artifact and memorabilia display, entertainment, and guided tours.
Your donated items contributed significantly to visitor understanding of the ranch,
and we are pleased to have them as part of the Carrillo Ranch Archives. I cannot
help but think that Leo, Toni, and especially your mother, would be pleased to see
how well you cared for and protected the items for so many years, and that they have
finally returned home to the ranch.
Once again, thank you very much for your generous donation, and for your personal
dedication to keeping the memory of Leo and his rancho alive.
