RECEIPT OF DONATION
ACTION
Receive a donation in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500) from Wal-Mart of Oceanside to
be used for supplies in the Stay n Play After School Program, and recommend acceptance by
City Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Wal-Mart has a variety of grant opportunities dedicated for youth programs. The Recreation staff
applied for the Wal-Mart Holiday Grant Program and was awarded $500 on January 8,2004,
from the Wal-Mart of Oceanside.
The $500 will be utilized to purchase craft supplies and educational materials, such as reading
and math development workbooks, for the Stay n Play After School program.
It is the goal of the Recreation Department to be efficient and effective in providing programs for
the citizens of Carlsbad, as stated in the “Core Values” section of the Recreation Department
Strategic Plan. This donation from Wal-Mart is an example of the Recreation Department’s
efforts to find additional resource opportunities for its programs and services.
Letters of appreciation from both the staff and participants of the Stay n Play Program have been
sent on behalf of the Recreation Department to Wal-Mart in Oceanside.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$500 has been deposited into the Recreation Trust account #149-4503-5651, and will be used
for the Stay n Play After School Program.
