ITEM EXPLANATION: In June 2004, an anonymous donor purchased and then donated to the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund a handmade "2004-2005 Restore America: A Salute to Preservation Quilt" block. Commissioned by Home and Garden Television and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the one-of-a-kind quilt block was designed to portray the spirit of Leo Carrillo Ranch - - Rancho de 10s Kiotes. According to the quilt's designer, Tom Russell, "In order to reflect the ranch element of the property, I utilized a portion [ofJ the ranch brand as the arch in the design. I also included a handprint from a photo taken at the ranch of handprints embedded in the wall of one of the buildings. Drawing on the southwestern influence, I added a cactus to represent the natural beauty of the area". The block was assembled using applique, embroidery, and beading. The quilt block donated to the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund has been placed on display in a prominent location in the Visitor Center. EXH 18 ITS: I. Picture of Quilt Block I I EXHIBIT I
