SUMMARY REPORT OF THE AUGUST 16, 2004 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING
CONSENT CALENDAR
The following consent items were unanimously approved (6-0).
1. AB #804-1 SUMMARY REPORT - the Commission received, accepted and approved the
Summary Report of the June 21, 2004 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
2. AB #804-2 RECEIPT OF DONATIONS/OPPORTUNITIES GRANT - The Commission
received a donation of $300 for the Opportunity Grants Scholarship Fund and
recommended acceptance by the City Manager.
3. AB #804-3 RECEIPT OF DONATIONS - The Commission received a donation of $141.50
from the sale of crafts created by Joan Kindle to support the Carrillo Ranch Trust and
recommeded acceptance by the City Manager.
4. AB #804-4 RECEIPT OF DONATIONS - An anonymous donor purchased, and then
donated a one of a kind quilt block to the Carrillo Ranch Trust. The Commission received it
and recommended acceptance by the City Manager.
5. AB #804-5 RECEIPT OF CASH DONATIONS - The Commission received cash donations
of $1,910 from a variety of donors who have recently toured the ranch. Acceptance of the
donation by the City Council was recommended.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
6 AB #804-6 RECEIPT OF HOME AND GARDEN TELEVISION GRANT AWARD - The
Commission received an update on the award of a $25,000 grant for Carrillo Ranch. The
grant was awarded as a result of a new partnership formed between the National Trust for
Historic Preservation/Save America's Treasures and Home and Garden Television. Funds
will be used to restore the stone barbeque. The Commission recommended that the award
be accepted by the City Council.
7. AB #804-7 INTERIM USE OF THE SAFETY CENTER BALL FIELD - The Commission
endorsed the concept of utilizing the Safety Center ball field, on an interim basis, to
accommodate the schedule use of ball field activities that will be displaced as a result of
construction at Pine Avenue Community Park.
8. AB #804-8 REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REGARDING BICYCLE USE ON
BATIQUITOS LAGOON ECOLOGICAL RESERVE NORTH SHORE TRAIL - A staff report
regarding a citizen request to allow bicycles on the Batiquitos Lagoon North Shore Trail was
provided to the Commission. The Board was informed that the request would go before the
California Department of Fish and Game Commission in late August. Their staff is
recommending denial.
9. AB #804-9 COMMUNITY ACTIVITY GRANT REVIEW COMMITTEE - Leo Pacheco was
unanimously endorsed as the Parks and Recreation Commission Representative to serve
on the Grant Review Committee.
