DATE: I 6/20/05 STAFF: I NAVARRO 0 INFO ACTION TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Receive a donation of one hundred dollars ($100) from Carlsbad Village Optimist Club to be used for supplies and materials in support of the Counselors In Training Program (CIT), and recommend acceptance by the City Manager. ITEM EXPLANATION: CIT is a program for teens in 6* through 1 O* grade that focuses on personal growth, teamwork, community involvement, and leadership development. These focal points are demonstrated through daily interactive activities and discussions, and participation in community events and volunteer projects, Theprogram meets Monday through Friday directly after school until 5:30pm, and includes an eight-week summer program. On May 19, 2005, the Counselors In Training participants volunteered their time at the Carlsbad Loves Kids Day event, hosted by the Carlsbad Village Optimist Club. CIT participants performed a variety of duties ranging from popcorn and snow cone sales, to managing carnival games. The Carlsbad Village Optimist Club has donated $100 as a token of thanks - for the CIT’s - volunteered time to support this event. The $100 will be utilized to purchase program supplies and materials, such as leadership development and personal growth workbooks, for the CIT Program. A letter of thanks (Exhibit 1) has been sent to the Carlsbad Village Optimist Club. FISCAL IMPACT: $100 has been deposited into the Recreation Trust Account #149-4503-5651, and will be used for the Counselors In Training Program. EXHIBITS: 1. The CIT program is a teen leadership program for grades 6 through 10 that focuses on personal growth, teamwork, leadership development, and community involvement. The Carlsbad Loves Kids Day event was a wonderful opportunity for the CIT participants to practice their leadership skills and connect with their community. The City of Carlsbad and CIT participants would like to thank you again, and we look forward to any future volunteer opportunities.
