DATE: 12-16-05 RECEIPT OF DONATION STAFF: CALARCO HACIENDA TABLE AND SIX CHAIRS INFO ACTION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Receive donation and recommend acceptance by City Council. ITEM EXPLANATION: The Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park recently received a generous donation of a beautifully handcrafted dining table and set of six matching chairs from Ms. Pamela Billings of San Diego, CA. Ms. Billing's daughter, Kelley Keatly, is a Rancho Carrillo resident and frequent visitor to the Ranch. Last March Ms. Keatly rented the facility for her mother's 60th birthday party celebration. It was this fortunate event at the Ranch that paved the way for the future donation. In September 2005 staff was contacted by Ms. Billings who wished to donate the table. She fondly recalled her visit, and believed that Carrillo's hacienda would be the ideal location for such a beautiful piece. The handmade table was originally purchased in Palm Springs, and was designed and built by a craftsman from Guadalajara, Mexico. The table is of solid wood construction, with a honey oak finish and a ceramic tile inlay. The chairs are leather, and each has a unique etched design on the back. The table and chairs have been placed in Leo and Deedie's historic bedroom for both use and display. The table was donated in loving memory of Ms. Billing's husband, Stephen S. Billings-"A life- long San Diegan, a Mexican-American, who was a fan of the Cisco Kid and was knowledgeable about Mexican American history and culture." Donation valued at $6,500. A timely letter of appreciation was sent to Ms. Billings acknowledging her generous donation to Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. EXHIBITS: 1. Photo: Hacienda Table Overview 2.
