RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommend acceptance by the Parks and Recreation Commission for a kiosk at Hosp Grove.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In June 2005, Colin McKenna, Boy Scout Troop 748, inquired about building a kiosk for the trail
head in Hosp Grove at the Rotary Park picnic area, as his project for obtaining the rank of Eagle
Scout. The project was accepted as a volunteer project for the Citywide Trails Program. Colin
prepared a project outline, drawings, and met several times with Parks Maintenance and
Recreation staff for review of his plans for the kiosk. Colin also fund-raised to purchase materials
for the kiosk construction and organized volunteers to build and install it. Approximately 187
hours of volunteer time were given to this project. Colin completed his Eagle Scout project in late
2005.
Thank you letters were sent to the troop and to Colin for providing this generous donation to the
Hosp Grove Rotary Park Trailhead and Picnic area. Colin recently achieved the rank of Eagle
Scout on March 4 2006. He will be recognized before the City Council on April 25, 2006 as a
youth volunteer for his efforts.
Attached is a photo of Colin and his completed kiosk.
