Summary Report - May 15, 2006 Parks & Recreation Commission meeting \> May 31, 2006 KEN PRICE TO: MAYOR LEWIS RECREATION DIRECTOR MAYOR PRO TEM HALL CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS KULCHIN, PACKARD, SIGAFOOSE FROM: RECREATION DIRECTOR SUMMARY REPORT OF THE May 15, 2006 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING CONSENT CALENDAR - The following consent items were unanimously approved 6-0 (Pacheco Absent) 1. AB #506-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION) - The Commission unanimously accepted and approved the Summary Report of the April 17, 2006 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS 2- AB # 506-2 UPDATE ON CARLSBAD CIVIC CENTER - CONNECTING COMMUNITY. PLACE AND SPIRIT-(INFO) The Civic Center Goal Team made a presentation to the Commission and provided a slide show illustrating the work done by the Civic Center Committee. 3. AB # 506-3 SPINNAKER HILL TOT LOT REPORT- (ACTION) The Commission unanimously denied a request from Diane Brink to have the Spinnaker Hill Tot Lot be included in the City's Park Inventory, and for the City to assume the liability insurance coverage for this facility. The Commission also approved, by a vote of 6-0 (Pacheco absent) to have the Tot Lot dismantled if the insurance was not obtained by June 1, 2006; and, if the insurance was provided, the existing Tot Lot play equipment must be brought up to City standards by July 1, 2006, or else it would have to be dismantled. 4. AB # 506-4 REVISIONS TO COUNCIL POLICY #28 - FEES: FACILITIES / AQUATICS / FIELDS (ACTION) After staff presentation and public comment, the Commission unanimously approved staff recommendations for new and increased facility fees with one exception. The exception was that the School District's $5 per lane per hour use fee remain at the current level for this year only. In addition, the ballfield lighting fee for Carlsbad non-profit organizations such as Little League and soccer, would be increased from $5 per hour to $7 per hour. 5- AB # 506-5 PROCESS OF SELECTING RECREATION ENRICHMENT CLASSES / CAMPS / INSTRUCTORS (INFO) The Commission received an informational update on the process of selecting Recreation Enrichment Classes, Camps, and Instructors. 6. AB# 506-6 SELECTION SUBCOMMITTEE REPRESENTATIVE FOR NAMING OF THE CARLSBAD CITY GOLF COURSE - (ACTION) After a brief update on the status of the Golf Course from Recreation Director Ken Price, the Commission unanimously agreed that Chairman Comstock be the Recreation Commission representative to serve on the SelectipjxCqmmittee for naming the Carlsbad Golf Course.
