ITEM EXPLANATION: On Saturday, July 8, 2006, the Recreation Department held a Health Expo that combined the Triathlon Seaside Expo with the Senior Center Health Fair. Over 63 vendors gave out information on their products and services. In addition, demonstrations, seminars and health screenings were held throughout the day. There was an estimated attendance of 1,500 participants learning about health and wellness. On Sunday, July 9, 2006, the Carlsbad Triathlon celebrated its 25th Anniversary with over 900 entries in the race. Participants enjoyed the weather, trophies, mementos and customer service provided by staff, with the aid of over 200 volunteers. In order to continue hosting this healthy weekend, staff seeks support from various businesses. The following organizations offered donations of $350 in cash and $735 in product in support of this weekend event. Bagels - Oceanside (26 doz. Bagels) 100 • Einstein Bros. Bagels - Encinitas (13 doz. Bagels) 50 • Garden State Bagels - Carlsbad (26 doz. Bagels) 100 PRODUCTS/GOODS TOTAL $ 735 TOTAL DONATIONS = $1,085 8 AB#806-2 Page 2 FISCAL IMPACT: The cost associated with the donated products offset the actual cost of providing this special event. In order to maintain the caliber, integrity and notoriety that currently exists for the Carlsbad Triathlon, the cost of providing the $735 of donated products and goods is an expense, which would otherwise be required of the General Fund. The cash donation of three hundred and fifty dollars ($350) has been deposited into the Recreation Department's Triathlon Donations account #149-4502-5651. Letters of appreciation have already been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad to all of the businesses and organizations. EXHIBITS: 1. None
