ITEM EXPLANATION: Each year a representative from the Finance Department is tasked with facilitating the distribution of Community Grant Activity funds for qualifying programs. (Exhibit 1) Part of that process involves the selection of members to a review committee that will evaluate grant applications and make recommendation to the City Council for grant awards. Similar to previous review committees, a representative from the Parks and Recreation Commission has been requested to serve in this capacity. Therefore, the Commission is requested to provide a member of the board to serve on the Citizen Review Committee to review Community Activity Grant applications. EXHIBITS: 1. Memo to the City Council from Finance Manager \3 EXHIBIT 1 August 8, 2006 TO: CITY COUNCIL VIA: FINANCE FROM: FINANCE MANAGER COMMUNITY ACTIVITY GRANT CITIZEN REVIEW COMMITTEE It is once again time to begin the annual Community Activity Grant Process. An important part of the process is the establishment of the Citizen Review Committee, which is to consist of one representative from each quadrant of the City, one member of the Senior Commission, one member from the Library Board and one member from the Parks and Recreation Commission. Attached is a list of the members that served last year, their home quadrant and the Council Member that appointed them. Please forward to me the name of a citizen (and their associated quadrant) that you wouid like to have serve on the committee. I would like to have the recommendations by September 4th so that the committee can begin its work for the 2006-07 funding recommendation. We will have the Library Director and the Recreation Director seek volunteers for this panel from the appropriate Boards and Commissions. It is anticipated that the $30,000 that Council appropriated for the 2006-07 grants program will be distributed in December 2006 as shown on the following "tentative schedule": Council to appoint review committee September Grant applications due to Finance Department October 2 Committee to review applications October/November Recommendations on funding made to Council December Please feel free to call me at extension 2422, if you have any questions.
