RECEIPT OF DONATIONS
(PUMPKIN PLUNGE)
INFO
ACTION
RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Receive individual donations of product in support of the October 14, 2006 - Pumpkin Plunge
and recommend acceptance by the City Manager.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
On Saturday, October 14th, the Recreation Department held the Pumpkin Plunge special event
at the Swim Complex. There was an estimated attendance of over 500 participants. The event
was held in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Swim Complex.
Kids were able to create fun crafts, climb the rock wall, get their faces painted, participate in a
variety of pool challenges, and carnival games, choose a pumpkin in the "Floating Pumpkin
Patch", and watch the Zombie Diving and Synchronized Swim Shows.
In order to keep costs down, staff sought support from various individuals. The following people
offered $775 of product in support of this event.
PRODUCTS/GOODS
• Brett Parker - 200 Pumpkins $575
• Florence Ledesma - variety of candy 200
TOTAL DONATIONS = $775
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with the donated products offset the actual cost of providing this special
event. In order to maintain the caliber, integrity and notoriety that currently exist for the Pumpkin
Plunge, the cost of providing the $775 of donated goods is an expense, which would otherwise
be required of the General Fund.
Letters of appreciation have already been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department and the
City of Carlsbad to Mr. Parker and Ms. Ledesma.
EXHIBITS:
None.
