RECEIPT OF DONATION
TO THE LEO CARRILLO RANCH
TRUST FUND FROM JOAN KINDLE
INFO
ACTION
RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Receive donation and recommend acceptance by City Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
This past holiday season, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park hosted the fourth annual Holiday at
the Rancho event. The attendance at this year's celebration was extraordinary thanks to
increased marketing by the Special Events Division.
Over two thousand members of the community attended the event which featured a Dickens'
theme. Highlights included strolling carolers, hearty homemade soup bowls, a decorated holiday
tree lighting, and the much anticipated return of Joan Kindle's annual holiday craft sale.
Joan Kindle, Volunteer Curator for Leo Carrillo Ranch Park and long time park benefactor, once
again worked for many months to create a bountiful assortment of handmade crafts, jewelry and
keepsakes. Two separate articles, one in the San Diego Union and one in the North County
Times, highlighted Joan's handicrafts. The holiday crafts were featured at the Holiday at the
Rancho, and attendees of all ages eagerly lined up to purchase Joan's creations at very
affordable prices. At the conclusion of the sale, virtually all of Joan's crafts had been sold, and
$1,520 had been raised to directly benefit the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund. This amount is nearly
triple the sales of last year.
The City of Carlsbad Recreation Department once again wishes to acknowledge Joan Kindle's
outstanding dedication to Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, and the continued donation of her
time, talent and financial resources to support the park..
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donation from the sale of Joan Kindle's crafts in the amount of $1,520 was deposited into
the Carrillo Ranch Trust account #149-4504-5651, to be used for purposes related to the
development, operation, and maintenance of Carrillo Ranch.
