DATE: STAFF: 04/16/07 | ELLIOTT RECEIPT OF DONATIONS FOR 2007 BATTLE OF THE BANDS-TEEN SCENE D INFO |x] ACTION RECOMMENDED ACTION : Receive individual donations of product in support of the January 27, 2007 Battle of the Bands - Teen Scene and recommend acceptance by the City Council. ITEM EXPLANATION : On Saturday, January 27th, the Recreation Department held the Battle of the Bands - Teen Scene special event at the Safety Center. There was an estimated attendance of over 500 participants and spectators. This year's event included a variety of activities that allowed teens several different options to express themselves. Battle of the Bands featured 10 bands playing for 20 minutes with three (3) judges from various music areas deciding the winner of the competition. Other features of the event included a 2007 Madden Football video game competition, art displays, coffee house with board games, and a teen mural. In an effort to gain support for the event, staff contacted several businesses who generously donated $1,265 of products for prizes. PRODUCTS/GOODS • Life's Rad in Carlsbad - Six (6) t-shirts $90 • Upper Deck - Box of football cards 125 • San Diego Chargers - Two (2) Gameday magazines 10 • Snow Summit - Twenty (20) lift tickets 900 • Knockout Pizzeria - Gift Certificate 50 • Magic Mountain - Two (2) admission tickets 90 TOTAL DONATIONS = $1,265 FISCAL IMPACT: The value associated with the donated products for prizes helped offset the actual cost of providing this special event. Letters of appreciation have been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad to these organizations. EXHIBITS: None. \0
