RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive a donation of product from Knockout Pizzeria in support of the December 9, 2006
Holiday at the Rancho event and recommend acceptance by the City Manager.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On Saturday, December 9th, 2006, the Recreation Department held the Holiday at the Rancho
special event at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. There was an estimated attendance of over
1,500 participants.
This year's event was developed around the "Dickens" theme. Families were entertained by
musicians dressed in period attire as Dickens Carolers strolling around the event. Participants
were able to keep warm by enjoying soup in cups and bread bowls, along with hot beverages.
Children created fun crafts before the lighting of the Holiday Tree and family viewing of the film
"A Christmas Carol".
During the event, there was a Tree Decoration Competition between six (6) different departments
within the City of Carlsbad. The trees were purchased and decorated and then judged by the
community during the event. Harding Community Center was judged by the attendees as best
decorated overall. Also, in keeping with the season of giving, various departments within the City
raised funds for Toys for Tots. The City Manager's office won for raising the most money.
Knockout Pizzeria donated lunch for the two (2) City departments that won the above
competitions. The value of the donated pizza in support of this event was $130.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The generous donation of lunch for the wining departments was an added bonus to the City
employees that contributed to the success of the event.
Letters of appreciation have already been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department and the
City of Carlsbad to Mr. Patrick Farley of Knockout Pizzeria.
