ACTION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive information and a short presentation regarding the California Trails and Greenways
Event Merit Award, received from California State Parks, for the 2006 Trail Blast Program.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Each year California State Parks hosts the California Trails and Greenways Conference and
invites agencies to nominate trails and greenways programs for recognition in providing efforts
that promote, enhance or expand public awareness and use of trails and greenways in
California.
This year, the Recreation Department nominated the Trail Blast Fitness program in the Trail
Event category. The Trail Event Merit Award is given in recognition of a special and successful
trail/greenway event that occurred in 2006. Entries are evaluated by a committee of State Park
and Trail representatives. There is only one award received in each category of the awards that
are given out by State Parks each year, and the award for 2006 in this category was presented
to Carlsbad's Trail Blast Fitness program.
Notification was received in late April and the award winners were showcased and honored at
the conference Awards Banquet held on May 11f 2007 at the 22nd California Trails and
