SENIOR CENTER IMPROVEMENTS UPDATE
ACTION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive update on progress of the project.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In the 2006-2007 Fiscal Year Capital Improvement Budget, the City Council approved
appropriation of funds for an improvement project of the existing Senior Center within the area
formerly owned by the Carlsbad Unified School District. The area consists of a total of 14,245
square feet (8,475 first floor and 5,770 second floor).
The first floor is designed to augment senior activities and includes:
• Fitness center
• Computer lab
• Multi-purpose / conference room
• Arts and crafts room
• Bathroom and changing room (including a shower)
• Several small office rooms (for tax preparation assistance, blood pressure testing, etc.)
• Game room
• Lunch area
The second floor will house Recreation Administration offices. Staff currently housed at City
Hall and several from Harding Center will move into the new offices.
Construction is scheduled to be complete in mid-October with move-in estimated to be mid to
late November.
