DATE: 11/19/07 STAFF: SHAY RECEIPT OF DONATIONS PUMPKIN PLUNGE 2007 INFO ACTION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Receive individual donations of cash and product in support of the October 13, 2007 Pumpkin Plunge Event and recommend acceptance by the City Manager. ITEM EXPLANATION: On Saturday, October 13th, 2007, the Recreation Department held the Pumpkin Plunge special event at the Swim Complex. There was an estimated attendance of over 400 participants. Kids were able to create fun crafts, get their faces painted, participate in a variety of pool challenges and carnival games, and snare a pumpkin in the "Floating Pumpkin Patch." The highlight of the event was watching the Zombie Diving and Synchronized Swim Shows and participating in some fun and creepy contests. In order to provide each child with a pumpkin and a chance to trick-or-treat in a safe, controlled environment, staff sought out donations from local businesses and friends of the pool to provide pumpkins and candy. Mr. Brett Parker and Mrs. Florence Ledesma graciously donated $150 cash and 62 bags of candy valued at $200. Several other businesses got involved by donating pumpkins and pizza. Below is a list of our generous supporters. VALUE $200 $50 $40 $50 TOTAL DONATIONS = $490 The cost associated with the donated products helped offset the actual cost of providing this special event. The one hundred and fifty dollars ($150) in cash was deposited into the Special Events trust account #1494503-5651. Letters of appreciation have already been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad. EXHIBITS: None
