DATE: | 02/04/08 STAFF:| BALTERIA RECEIPT OF DONATION FROM JOAN KINDLE D INFO 0 ACTION RECOMMENDED ACTION : Receive a donation and recommend acceptance by the City Council. ITEM EXPLANATION : This past holiday season, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park hosted the fifth annual Holiday at the Rancho special event which has now become an annual tradition for many members of the local community. The weather the night of the event was less than favorable, but the rain and cold air did not stop approximately 1,000 people from attending the event. Highlights of this year's event included an outdoor screening of The Polar Express, pictures with Santa Claus and the return of Joan Kindle's annual holiday craft sale which in and of itself has become an annual tradition in Carlsbad. Joan Kindle, Volunteer Curator for Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park and long time park benefactor, started working early last year to create an assortment of handmade crafts, jewelry and keepsakes. The holiday crafts were a hit at the Holiday at the Rancho, and attendees of all ages eagerly purchased Joan's creations at very affordable prices. Due to inclement weather the night of Holiday at the Rancho, two special sales were held the following weekend to make the crafts available to those unable to attend the Holiday at the Rancho. At the conclusion of the three sales, $1,021 had been raised to directly benefit the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund. The City of Carlsbad Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge Joan Kindle's outstanding dedication and devotion to Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, and the continued donation of her time, talent and financial resources to support the park. FISCAL IMPACT: The donation from the sale of Joan Kindle's crafts in the amount of $1,021 was deposited into the Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund account #149-4504-5651, to be used for future purposes related to the development, operation, and maintenance of Carrillo Ranch.
