TRAIL PROJECT RECOGNITION

ACTION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive a short presentation regarding Ian Mortimer's Eagle Scout Project for trail improvements
to the Calavera Hills, Village H trail.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Staff would like to recognize the outstanding volunteer service and leadership of Ian Mortimer,
Carlsbad Troop 784, for his Eagle Scout project which enhanced Carlsbad's trail system with the
installation of over 500 linear feet of lodge pole fencing. The Village H open space located north
of Carlsbad Village Dr. and Victoria Ave., is managed by the Center for Natural Lands
Management and includes a City trail adjacent to an endangered habitat within the open space.
The newly installed fence serves to protect this sensitive habitat by keeping trail users on the
designated trail.
The City of Carlsbad's Recreation Department is committed to building strong community through
service projects such as this, and wishes to acknowledge and recognize the many talented
volunteers from Troop 784 that made this community service project possible, including the
Kiwanis Club of Carlsbad who sponsors the troop. Without their support and dedication, this
project would not have been possible.
