SUMMARY REPORT OF THE AUGUST 18, 2008 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
CONSENT CALENDAR - The following consent items were unanimously approved 4-0:
Present: Chairperson Lyons, Commissioners Cooper, Craig, and Martyns
Absent: Commissioners Comstock and George
1. AB # 0808-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION) - The Commission accepted and approved the Summary
Report of the June 16, 2008 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
2. AB # 0808-2 RECEIPT OF DONATIONS -2008 CARLSBAD TRIATHLON - (ACTION) -The Commission
accepted donations of in-kind items in the amount of $1,107 in support of the 2008 Carlsbad Triathlon, and
recommended acceptance by the City Manager.
3. AB # 0808-3 RECEIPT OF DONATIONS - T.R.U.S.T. Program - {ACTION) -The Commission accepted a
cash donation in the amount of $1,000 from the Rotary Club of Encinitas, in support of the T.R.U.S.T Program
(Teaching Respect Unity Sportsmanship & Teamwork), and recommended acceptance by the City Council.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
4. AB # 0808-4 ALGA NORTE PARK & AQUATIC CENTER UPDATE- (INFO) - The Commission received an
update report from Skip Hammann, Special Projects Director. The presentation was the same as the one
given to the City Council on July 22nd. Mr. Hammann stated that the most recent action by the City Council
was to defer the entire project until the City receives further information on the status of the State budget and
1st quarter revenues of the City.
5. AB # 0808-5 PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTERSHIP UPDATE- (INFO) -The Commission received an update
report from the staff regarding the creation of a new Administrative Order to advise staff as to how to formalize
a public private partnership.
6. AB # 0808-6 PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION HOLIDAY SOCIAL UPDATE- (INFO) -The
Commission received an update report from the staff regarding the PRC Holiday Social. After a historical
update of their previous commission socials, they selected Dec 5th at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park.
