DATE: | 3/16/09 STAFF:LANCASTER ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION CALIFORNIA COASTAL ROSE SOCIETY D INFO ACTION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Recommend acceptance by the City Council the in-kind volunteer hours and contribution of the California Coastal Rose Society at the Magee House during 2008. ITEM EXPLANATION: Staff would like to recognize the outstanding volunteer service and contributions by the California Coastal Rose Society at the Magee House during 2008. The volunteers donated 250 hours to help weed, feed, mulch, dead-head, prune and plant roses in the Magee Rose garden. They estimate their hourly rate at $7 per hour and this translates into an in-kind donation of $1,750. Materials were also donated to help with the care of the roses. The materials donated include organic fertilizers (8 bags of Alfalfa meal, 4 bags of Sul-Po-Mag, 8 bags of Rose & Flower Food), 40 bags of mulch, and 6 new roses, plus miscellaneous expenses provided by the California Coastal Rose Society for 2008 is estimated at a value of at least $1,200. The City of Carlsbad's Parks & Recreation Department is committed to building strong community through service projects such as this, and wishes to acknowledge and recognize the many talented volunteers from the California Coastal Rose Society that made this community service project possible. Without their support and dedication, this project would not have been possible. FISCAL IMPACT: The value of in-kind efforts and contributions on behalf of the California Coastal Rose Society for 2008 is estimated at $2,950. EXHIBITS: 1. At an hourly minimum rate of $7 per hour the total is $1,750.
