RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the tentative proposed 2009 schedule of Parks and Recreation Commission meeting
locations.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In an effort to engage more of the Carlsbad community in a dialogue about Parks and Recreation
Operations and activities, staff suggests that meetings be hosted at various Park and Recreation
facilities throughout the community. The proposed schedule will also provide an opportunity for
Commissioners and public visitors to become more familiar with some of the venues managed by
the Parks and Recreation Department. An effort will be made to place items on the respective
meeting agendas that are of specific interest to the various communities hosting the meeting.
In the most recent 18 months dating back to the August 2007 Parks & Recreation Commission
meeting, a total of two members of the public have attended a meeting to address the
Commission during open public comment. The proposed meeting schedule is an attempt to
reach out to the community and generate greater public interest in the important work the City is
doing. Meeting dates, locations and agendas will be posted on the department's website and
City facilities including Parks and Recreation Centers, Libraries, City Hall, and Faraday Center.
