RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommend acceptance of in-kind donations of $697.64 by the City Manager in support of the
2009 Earth Day Clean Up at the Buena Vista Creek Reserve.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On Saturday, ApriMS, 2009 the Parks & Recreation Department hosted a clean up with the
Center for Natural Lands Management, and Preserve Calavera from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Approximately 50 people participated in removing trash and invasives from the riparian corridor
of the Buena Vista Creek area east of Marron Road and south of Highway 78.
The event featured information on the city's Trail program, the Center for Natural Lands
Management and the Buena Vista Creek Reserve. As part of the Earth Day incentives for the
general public, SDG&E also provided recyclable grocery bags, water canteens, bookmarks with
wildflower seeds and energy rebate information for participants to take home with them after the
event. Besides being a "green" and earth friendly event, residents were able to preview and
enjoy the open space and trails of the area that will be a part of the city's future formalized trail
system.
Letters of appreciation have already been sent on behalf of the Parks & Recreation Department
to the businesses that contributed so generously to this event.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donations helped offset the total cost of hosting this event. The table below summarizes the
in-kind donations received by local businesses for the Earth Day Event.
