RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive a report on the status of Community Gardens within the City of Carlsbad.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In response to a recent request by the Commission, a report will be presented on the status of
community gardens within the City of Carlsbad. Kyle Lancaster, Parks Superintendent with the
Parks/Trees Maintenance Division, will provide information on the establishment, characteristics,
operation, expansion, and enhancement of the City's Harold E. Smerdu Community Garden.
Related topics of interest will include the potential for horticultural class instruction and
composting demonstrations at the existing community garden, recently learned trends in
community garden programs outside the city, and the future consideration of increasing
community garden sites within the city.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There will be no direct fiscal impact resulting from this report.
