RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive a staff presentation commemorating the 30th year of the Carlsbad Triathlon.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In 2011, the City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department celebrates 30 years of organizing
and conducting the highly successful Carlsbad Triathlon. Since its inception in 1982, the Carlsbad
Triathlon has attracted nearly 20,000 participants, and it is one of the top five longest running
triathlons in the world.
This year's activities commence on Saturday, July 9 with the Community Health & Fitness Expo,
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Westfield Plaza Camino Real. On Sunday, July 10, the 30th annual
Carlsbad Triathlon starts promptly at 8 a.m. at Tamarack State Beach. Be sure to leave extra time
to visit the Triathlon Expo located on the sidewalk above the Tamarack sea wall that same day.

Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and therefore does not require environmental review.
