Present: Chairperson Cooper, Commissioners Craig, Martyns, Rudick Stein, Simons, Proulx, and Withall
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
By proper motion, the minutes of the Parks & Recreation Commission meetings of April 16, 2012 and
May 21, 2012 were approved.
April 16, 2012 minutes - Approved 5-0-2-0 (Commissioners Craig and Simons abstained)
May 21, 2012 minutes - Approved 4-0-3-0 (Commissioners Craig, Martyns, and Proulx abstained)
(Commissioner Craig arrived at 5:31 p.m. after the approval of the May minutes)
PRESENTATION:
Chris Hazeltine, Parks & Recreation Director recognized Chairperson Denny Cooper for his years of service (2005-
2012) with the Parks & Recreation Commission, and presented to him a clock. This was Chairperson Cooper's
last meeting.
CONSENT CALENDAR
1. AB# 0612-1 COMMISSION SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION)
The Commission accepted and approved the Summary Reports of the April 16, 2012 and
May 21, 2012 Parks & Recreation Commission meeting.
April 16, 2012 Summary Report - Approved 6-0-1-0 (Commissioner Simons abstained)
May 21, 2012 Summary Report - Approved 4-0-3-0 (Commissioners Craig, Martyns, and Proulx abstained)
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
2. AB # 0612-2 DEPARTMENT REPORT - (ACTION)
The Commission received a report on recently completed and upcoming Parks and Recreation activities,
donations and grants, as well as other topics of local interest.

3. AB # 0612-3 PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION PROPOSED TOUR (ACTION)
The Commission received and adopted the proposed tour itinerary for the August 20, 2012 meeting.

4. AB # 0612-4 PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION CALENDAR - (ACTION)
The Commission received and adopted a calendar of Commission activities through June 2013.
Approved 7-0-0-0
5. AB # 0612-5 ELECTION OF COMMISSION OFFICERS (ACTION)
The Commission elected Commissioner Diane Proulx as Chairperson and Jim Craig as Vice Chairperson for the
remaining 2012 calendar year.

Summary of the Parks & Recreation Commission Special Meeting of August 20, 2012
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson Proulx, Commissioners Craig, Rudick Stein, Simons, and Withall.
Absent: Commissioner Martyns
PARK TOUR
1. Alga Norte Park
Mark Steyaert, Park Development Manager, and Patrick McGarry, Public Works
Superintendent, gave a brief overview of the park.
2. Carlsbad Senior Center Lunch
Commissioner Martyns joined the tour at Stagecoach Park.
3. Stagecoach Park
Gian Lauro, Recreation Area Manager, gave a brief overview of the park.
Michael Bodman, Recreation Supervisor, introduced the Kidz camp and arranged for ice
cream sundaes that were served by the Parks 8i Recreation Commissioners.
No action was taken.
