Subject: Parks & Recreation Commission Work Plan for fiscal year 2020-21
Recommended Action
Review, edit as needed, and adopt the work plan for fiscal year 2020-21 and recommend
approval by the City Council.
Discussion
Background
In 2018, the City Council revised the Carlsbad Municipal Code to create uniform policies and
procedures related to boards and commissions. CMC Section 2.15.020 (C) requires that each
board or commission provide to the City Council for its approval an annual work plan of
activities to be undertaken.
On Nov. 18, 2019, the Parks & Recreation Commission unanimously adopted its work plan for
fiscal year 2019-20 and recommended approval by the City Council. The work plan included the
activities that the Parks & Recreation Commission anticipated undertaking in that fiscal year.
The purpose of a work plan is to encourage increased dialogue between the Parks & Recreation
Commission and the City Council. It is also intended to ensure that the Parks & Recreation
Commission is working in line with the priorities of the City Council. On Jan. 14, 2020, the City
Council adopted a resolution approving the Parks & Recreation Commission Work Plan for fiscal
year 2019-21 (Exhibit 1).
Staff has prepared a draft Parks & Recreation Commission Work Plan for fiscal year 2020-21
(Exhibit 2) for the Commission to review, edit as needed, and consider for adoption.
Next Steps
The Parks & Recreation Commission Work Plan for fiscal year 2020-21 will be presented to the
City Council for approval.
