Ice Cream Social with Cowboy Jack
Senior Center
REPORT
November 2, 2017
Recently, Senior Center staff hosted the annual outdoor bar-b-que and Ice Cream Social. The daily
lunch was served outside under the trees while patron enjoyed the live entertainment of a Senior
Center favorite, Cowboy Jack. Participants enjoyed a lively afternoon of good old-fashioned fun.
Hepatitis A Vaccinations
The Carlsbad Senior Center continues to do its part to combat the Hepatitis A outbreak. Working with
the County of San Diego's Department of Environmental Health, the Senior Center hosted free
vaccination clinics on Thursday, October 12th and Tuesday, October 17. Over 120 members of the
community, in addition to a few staff members received vaccinations over the two days. Additionally,
facility staff have increased the frequency and thoroughness of the cleansing of the restrooms to
decrease the likelihood of the virus being transmitted to one of our patrons.
Special Volunteers Training and recognition Pizza Party
On Tuesday, October 17th, Recreation Supervisor, Jack Risley along with Program Coordinators Patti
Gebel and Valerie Fisher hosted a training event for approximately 40 special volunteers who serve
here daily in the Senior Center and who without their assistance, could not provide the numerous
services the citizens rely upon so heavily. The volunteers were provided training on emergency
preparedness and then received a certificate of recognition and enjoyed a nice lunch of pizza.
