adults play in making communities healthy for all ages. Intergenerational programming strategies are a
key component in the North County Community Leadership Team’s Community Health Improvement

and youth programs, discuss new solutions and programs to improve health and wellness across the
generations and prioritize key projects and priority issues for North County. Meetings are held on the

Be a Friend First
Girl Scout Troop 1175 brought their goal of being a friend first to the Senior Center for the month of
January. The troop of compassionate girls decorated five different jars that were then filled with
messages to help seniors, and any other individual who happened to pass by them, leave behind their
bad moods. The five jars were for those feeling lonely, sad, angry, anxious or just needing a laugh.
There were message of kindness, jokes to lift your spirits and tips on how to improve their moods.
Some seniors chose to simply read the message and replace it in the jar while others took them home
to leave up around their house as reminders. Either the way the jars served as reminders to seniors and
the rest of Carlsbad that it is always easy to be a friend first.
