January 9, 1957
Meeting was called to order at 7 '-25 P.M- by Chairman Dunne* New
members appointed by the Council, ^r. Leonard S&yder and Mre Ben
Schelake, were sworn Into off Ice 0
The first item of business was discussion and review of harbor
engineering and State plans to date« After considerable discussion,
Comra. Christiansen moved that the City Planning Consultant be requested
to be present at the next regular meeting and to present the tentative
zoning map that he has of the area around the Harbor so that the
Harbor Commission members may be familiar with the thinking of the
Planning Commission end the Planning Consultant,, Seconded by Comm0Jeff era* Massed unanimously.
Second item of business was the discussion of the lease with the
San Diero Gas and Electric Company « Comm. Walters moved, and Comm0Jeffers seconded, that a memorandum be sent to the City Council
inquiring Into the status of the leasea Motion passed by unanimous
vote*
It was brought to the attention of the Commission that members of
the Harbor Commission should attend Council meetings at which action
of the Commission was being discussed „ It was decided that the Chairman
would appoint members to attend In alphabetical sequence*
The question of contacting the Array Corps of Engineers, kos Angeles
Office, was brought before the Commission by Chairman Dunne,. On a
motion by Commissioner Walters, seconded by Commissioner Sohelske,
Chairman Dunne was authorized by the Commission to attend, and a
memorandum was requested to be sent to the Council authorising the
trip and necessary expenditure of funds a
The question arose as to what could be done to stimulate interest in
the Harbor program In the interim period vihlle the Engineer was completing
plans for presentation to the County Board of Supervisors 0 It was
suggested by Comm. Christiansen that a map be reproduced of the two
sections of tentative maps in the files of the Harbor Commissions to
be used for newspaper publicity* On a motion by Comm0 Christiansen,
seconded by Comm. Walters, it was requested that a memorandum be sent
requesting the expenditure of up to £100 000 for preparation of the aapsc
Election of Chalrmau and Secretary * Nomination of Chairman - Coram.
Christiansen nominated Comou ^erkle,, Comm» Schelske nominated Conmu
Walters * Ballot indicated fy- 2 in fpvor of Walters^ who was elected
as Chairman to serve for the coming year. The Chairman then appointed
Ewald to act as Secretary, Chairman Dunne, with the p.pprovnl of
Chair man -iilect Walters, made appointments of committees as follows s

It was decided that the regular date of meeting for the Commission is
to be the first Tuesday of the month at ?:00 P.M.
