Meeting started at 9:08 a.m.
Lewis Michaelson started the meeting indicating that now we need to begin preparing
for the Continued Conversation meetings and the Charrette.
Denise Vedder informed the Committee that all of the names, addresses and emails of
the individuals expressing interest in the process were put into a database.
Sandra Holder indicated that the City Council has been updated on all the Prop D
activity.
Robert McNulty talked about the findings that Partners for Livable Communities had
taken off of all the notes that were transcribed from the two Community Conversation
meetings. This is not a report, but an exhaustive list of input from the participants.
Michael Holzmiller explained about some of the ideas that Partners for Livable
Communities included in the list presented to the Committee.
The Committee discussed several of the items that were included in the list. Lewis
Michaelson indicated to the Committee that it is not our job to edit the list. He told the
Committee that we were looking for any and all ideas that the participants thought would
be viable on the property included in Prop D if farming were no longer economically
viable.
The discussion continued on the input that was gathered at the two Community
Conversation meetings.
Robert McNulty explained to the Committee what a Charrette is. A Charrette is
compilation of the possibilities of a planning issue, design issue, etc. He went on to
explain how he envisioned the Charrette would be conducted.
Mark Steyaert explained that the City has used Charrettes to design several parks in the
City, such as Pine Park.
Robert McNulty passed out a Place making Game from PPS (People for Public Spaces)
and explained that this is something used with lay people for completing a place making
exercise.
The Committee discussed the content and how the Continued Conversations (focus
groups) would be conducted. It was discussed how many of these focus groups the
Committee would hold. It was indicated the contract with Partners for Livable
Communities had a total of 4 to 6 meetings for the focus groups.
The Committee decided that it would be best to integrate youth into the focus groups
rather than have a separate group meeting just for youth.
The Committee decided to have representatives from the property owners at their next
meeting to indicate what they envisioned on their property.
The Presentation on Carlsbad Ranch Specific Plan and the SDG&E Property
Constraints were tabled until the next meeting since time was running short at this
meeting.
The next meeting was tentatively scheduled for January 31, 2008 from 9:00 to 11:00
a.m. The following will be the Agenda items for the next meeting:
1) Presentations from Property Owners
2) Design of Workshops
3) Presentation on Carlsbad Ranch Specific Plan
4) Presentation on SDG&E Property Constraints
