DATE OF MEETING: April 14, 1969
TIME OF MEETING: 4:00 P.M.
PLACE OF MEETING: City Manager's Conference Room
PRESENT: James O'Toole, W. D. Cannon, Knox Williams, Wm.
Atkinson, Glenn McComas, W. Friday, C. E. Martin,
Bob Neely, Otto Scheuneman, and Kline P. Barney with
representatives Hadley Johnson and Larry Olsen
ABSENT: Wm. Esterline, Bob Watson
Mr. Barney and associates were present at this meeting to give
a progress report of the water improvement project to this
Committee.
According to City estimates, after 1973 the population will
increase rapidly which would bring the reservoirs up to capacity
sooner. High rise buildings were included in these projections.
There is a problem at the Elm Avenue site in that part of the
tank will be on a fill which is not compacted properly. The tank
will therefore have to be semi-cut (partially above and partially
below ground level) .
Mr. Hadley explained areas of high head loss and where feed areas
are generally located on the two zoning maps displayed. The
planning is on gravity flow except for a hydro-station needed
near Ellery Reservoir. A hydraulic grade line chart was dis-
tributed and explained to the Committee.
Mr. Barney stated the main feed supply line will be paralleled
sooner than planned since the line does not have capacity to
carry City as long as expected.
The different types of cylinder tanks were discussed: concrete,
concrete with vinyl liner, pre-stressed and gunite. Mr. O'Toole
suggested Mr. Barney make a survey of the costs and maintenance
of the different tank types and report findings to the Committee.
Mr. Barney stated they expect to have final recommendations
prepared in three weeks and the total cost averages about the
same as proposed.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:11 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Bishop
Recording Secretary
