Kacher. The motion was approved.
New Business
Discussion centered around the arts management workshop held in San Diego several
weeks ago. Commissioners Wood, Pynes, Kacher and Willis attended the workshop.
Chair Wood stated that he felt the information on fundraising and arts education were the
most useful.
Commissioner Pynes mentioned that she had already put the advocacy information to
good use. The arts education long range plan will hopefully be presented to the School
Board on May 13. She stated that the steering committee would be asking for 1 music
teacher to teach in every elementary school. Because the programs are site based now, all
students arrive at the junior high school with all different levels of training. Bill Lignante
suggested that Commissioner Pynes give a presentation to the Chamber Education
Committee. Commissioner Lignante will schedule her to speak at a future meeting.
Committee Reports
Chair Wood announced the Arts and Lecture series was very well attended and the lecture
on Mexican Culture was especially interesting. The March 26 Temporary Art Exhibition
reception was not as well attended. The artists gave a very interesting presentation. He
also announced that the Commissions Workshop will be held on April 28 and
recommended that everyone attend.
Arts Manager Connie Beardsley said that the Arts in Bloom festival was rained out. This
is the first time they have ever had an event canceled because of rain. Also she reminded
everyone that Festejando was to be held again on Mother's Day in Holiday Park and
encouraged everyone to come.
Arts Associates President Jan Merrill announced that this was her last meeting and she
introduced Barbara Nolder who will be the next President. She discussed the next fund-
raising event, a Gala Party to be held at La Costa. They are hoping to have 100-150 in
attendance. Everyone is being asked to sell tickets. The event is April 24 from 6:30 to
8:30 P.M. They will make a generous contribution to the City at the event.
Barbara Nolder spoke of the importance of arts education to business.
George Willis motioned to adjourn. It was seconded by Bill Lignante. The meeting was
adjourned at 5:35 P.M.
