According to the approved procedure for accepting a donated artwork, the
recommendation of the Arts Commission will go to the Carlsbad City Council. Beardsley
went on to explain that the painting will hang in the exhibition and when the Cole Library
opens, it is planned to be hung in the Community Room. Susan Pynes moved to accept
the donation. Jim O'Meara seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.
Amphitheater Report
Commissioner O'Meara reported on his work towards getting an amphitheater built in
Carlsbad. He said he would allocate 90 days towards this project and will come back
with a summary next month. He went with Commissioner Wood to look at the Water
Retention Basin and liked the area very much. He thought it would be less disruptive to
housing and there would be available parking. It is centrally located. He had been meeting
with people to gain support of the project, has spoken with two council members thus
far and has another meeting scheduled next week to keep Council informed of the public
interest. He is thinking of the project in three phases. A grass area for blankets an area for
the stage and performances and an area under the stage for dressing rooms, storage etc.
Commissioner O'Meara asked that the amphitheater be placed on the Arts Commission
