I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Tina Schmidt, Chair of the Arts
Commission.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Aquallo, DeForest, Friese, Iserloth, Johnson, Schmidt, and
Voll
III. Approval of Minutes
On motion by Commissioner DeForest, second by Commissioner Iserloth, to approve
the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held September 1, 2011.
AYES: Commissioners Aquallo, DeForest, Friese, Iserloth, Johnson, Schmidt, and
Voll
NOES: None
IV. New Business
A. Special recognition of Tonya Rodzach. FY 2011-2012 Peer Award Recipient (Tina
Schmidt, Chair)
Tina Schmidt, Chair, introduced Tonya Rodzach, Community Arts Coordinator,
recipient of a FY 2011- 2012 Peer Award given to employees who best exemplify
the City's values and mission statement.
B. Report on plans for new "Coffee Cart" at Dove Library (Steve Didier. Management
Analyst for Library and Cultural Arts).
Steve Didier, Management Analyst, gave a report regarding proposed coffee cart
at the Dove library. Mr. Didier stated that the coffee cart would be located just
outside the library in the courtyard. A Request for Proposal (RFP) was sent to local
retail coffee shops and the RFP was awarded to Cafecito in Oceanside. The coffee
cart will open 30 minutes before the library opens and will close 30 minutes after
the library closes. Cafecito may also be open for special events and is targeted to
begin operating the first week in December 2011.
C. Update on the General Plan. Report from Commission Chair, Tina Schmidt.
Tina Schmidt, Commission Chair, summarized the progress on the city's new
General Plan and encouraged commissioners to be involved in the process,
especially the community meetings being planned for early 2012.
D. Review and revision of committee assignments.
Barbara Iserloth resigned from the Arts-ln-Education Committee and Joann
Johnson was appointed to the Arts-ln-Education Committee.
Announcements
Tina Schmidt, Commission Chair, stated that three Arts Commissioners (Aquallo,
DeForest, Schmidt) would be participating in the Community Arts Grants Peer
Review Panel for the 2012 Awards at the Cultural Arts Office on November 16,
2011,9:00 a.m.
She also noted that three Commissioners (Aquallo, Friese, Johnson) would be
participating in the Arts-ln-Education Advisory Committee meeting to be held on
January 12, 2012 in the Gowland Meeting Room from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
V. Public Comment
There was no public comment.
VI. Commission Reports
A. Commissioners reported on their recent activities.
B. Peter Gordon announced that tonight is the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts "Meet and
Greet" event at the Museum of Making Music, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Gordon also stated that On Ensemble will be presented at the Schulman
Auditorium in partnership with the Museum of Making Music, funded in part by the
Robert H. Gartner Endowment Fund. Tickets can be purchased from the Museum
of Making Music.
Mr. Gordon informed the Commission that Opera Lectures, Opera Caravans, and
This Is Jazz! Programs will again be presented in 2012.
VII. Adjournment
Commissioner Schmidt adjourned the regular meeting of the Arts Commission at 10:14 a.m.
