Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Commissioner Schmidt, Chair. II. Roll Call Commissioners Present: DeForest, Friese, Johnson, Markovits, Schmidt, and Voll Commissioners Absent: Aquallo III. Approval of Minutes Motion by Commissioner DeForest, second by Commissioner Friese, to approve the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held February 2, 2012. AYES: Commissioners Friese, Johnson, Schmidt, and Voll NOES: None ABSENT: Commissioner Aquallo ABSTAIN: Commissioners DeForest and Markovits IV. New Business A. Village Banner Program: Debbie Fountain. Director of Housing and Neighborhood Services Department Debbie Fountain, Director of Housing and Neighborhood Services, gave an overview of the Village Banner Program and distributed materials related to the program. B. Presentation bv Steve Didier. Librarv & Cultural Arts Department Management Analvst Steve Didier, Library & Cultural Arts Department Management Analyst, gave a summary of the FY 12-13 Cultural Arts Office budget. Mr. Didier also gave an update on the relocation of the Cultural Arts Office staff, including a report on the concept design work that had been done by the consulting firm of Carrier Johnson + Culture. V. Old Business A. Update on Public Art Proiects bv Peter Gordon. Arts Manager Peter Gordon, Arts Manager, gave an update on: 1. Safety Training Center: work completed and successfully installed 2. Ziegler artwork at Dove Library: work has been deaccessioned from the collection and staff is waiting for approval from City Manager's office to remove 3. Benbow Bullock: installed along Carlsbad Village Drive on a long-term, temporary basis 4. Alga Norte Park: artist is now looking at the revised park plans to see how the July 2007-approved public art components fit into the new park design 5. Fire Station #3: staff is working with project architect to identify potential art opportunities, in preparation of calling together a selection committee to select an artist for the project VI. Public Comment There was no public comment. VII. Commission Reports A. Peter Gordon, Arts Manager, commented on the recent activities of the arts office staff. B. Commissioners reported on their recent activities. VIII. Announcements Commissioner Schmidt, Chair, invited the Arts Commissioners to the following meetings and events: July 14 Public Artists, Private Works exhibition opening at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery, 5-7 p.m. Aug 2 Arts Commission meeting Aug 12 Carlsbad Arts Festival Aug 18 Family Open Studios, 11-2 p.m.. Dove Library Complex July 27 Art at Jazz, Poinsettia Park Aug 17 Art at Jazz, Calavera Hills Park IX. Adiournment Commissioner Schmidt adjourned the regular meeting of the Arts Commission at 10:43 a.m. Respectfully submitted.
