May 2, 2013

REGULAR MEETING
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:01 a.m.by Commissioner Schmidt, Chair.
II. Roll Call
Commissioners Present: Aquallo, DeForest, Johnson, Markovits, Schmidt, and Voll
Commissioners Absent: None [1 vacant seat result of resignation of Commissioner Friese]
III. Approval of Minutes
Motion by Commissioner DeForest, second by Commissioner Aquallo, to approve the minutes of
the regular meeting held February 7, 2013.
AYES: Commissioners Aquallo, DeForest, Johnson, Markovits, Schmidt, and Voll
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: None
IV. New Business
A. Newest staff member of the Cultural Arts Office, Sandra Riggins, was introduced to the
Commission.
B. Community Arts Coordinator Colleen Finnegan reviewed the 2013 TGIF Jazz in the Park
schedule and performers.
V. Old Business
A. The Board received an update on the CIP projects for FY2013-14 that involve relocation
of the Cultural Arts staff.
B. Cultural Arts Manager Peter Gordon reviewed the public art for Alga Norte Park as
approved by the City Council at their April 30, 2013 meeting.
Public Comment
There was no public comment.
VI. Commission Reports
A. Manager's Report - Peter Gordon
• Manager Gordon relinquished the floor to Library & Cultural Arts Director
Heather Pizzuto who announced that approval was received to conduct a
national recruitment for the Cultural Arts Manager position being vacated by
Manager Gordon's retirement in June.
Manager Gordon reported the following:
• New Village Arts will be performing Sixty Minute Shakespeare: Macbeth and
Sixty Minute Shakespeare: A Mid-Summer Night's Dream during the month of
May in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium.
• Family Open Studio - Plus will take place on May 11*^
• The May 1 "This Is Jazz" program will be the last in the series for this year
• The next exhibit in the Cannon Art Gallery is "On Your Own Time" featuring art
created by City employees and their family members.
• Kathy Dodson has been named as the new director of the Community &
Economic Development Department of the City.
B. Commissioners' Reports
Commissioners reported on their recent activities.
VII. Announcements
Chair Schmidt reminded the Commission that the election of a chair and assignment of
committees will take place at their June 2013 meeting.
Commissioner Voll announced that she will be unable to attend the June 2013 meeting.
VIII. Adiournment
Commissioner Schmidt adjourned the regular meeting of the Arts Commission at 10:50 a.m.
