being installed. The park is scheduled to open in early January, 2014.
After a presentation by Gallery Curator McGuire about the proposed artwork by Betsy Shuiz for

Library & Cultural Arts Director Pizzuto reported on the 2013 season of TGIF Jazz in the Parks.
The season was very successful with no major incidents and strong attendance and enthusiasm
at every concert.
DIREaOR'S REPORT
Library & Cultural Arts Director Pizzuto updated the commission on the Cultural Arts Manager
recruitment. An offer has been made and accepted and the city is waiting for results from the
physical before an announcement is made.
Community Arts Coordinator Rodzach updated the commission on the Kelso donation proposed
for Fire Station #1. The Acquisitions Advisory Committee is expected to finalize its
recommendation to this commission in September.
Library & Cultural Arts Director Pizzuto informed the commission of two potential art elements
being considered in the city. The first is an art element for the new roundabout to be located at
the intersection of Carlsbad Blvd and State St. If approved by city council, the public art process
would be put on a fast track. The second project is a sign application which was submitted for
preliminary review to the city, proposed by the Chamber of Commerce, to span Carlsbad Blvd at
Carlsbad Village Drive. An art element may or may not be included in the design. The
commission will be updated regularly on the status of these prospective projects.
FRIENDS OFTHE ARTS REPORT
Commissioner Johnson reported on the success of the fundraising effort associated with TGIF
Jazz in the Parks. Volunteers including children and their parents from Kid's Korps did a great
service in helping distribute the souvenir programs. There are already businesses asking about
advertising in next year's program. The Friends raised over $40,000 this season and are looking
at possible expansion to online sale of promotional items. Commissioner Markovits expressed
concern that the wine glasses sold this season do not stack or fit into a glass holder.
