Members Present: Mario Monroy, Sally Vigil, 3ohn Gray, Gary Nessim, Pearl Johnson and David Castel. City Staff Present: Bob Johnson and Mike Brooks. Members Absent: Steve Jensen The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. The meeting was officially opened at 6:00 P.M. by the Chairman, Mario Monroy. Due to several consecutive absences by Steve Jensen, Mario Monroy will check with him as to his status on the committee and the progress of his report on beach erosion problems in south Carlsbad. The following items of interest were reported on: 1. Sammis has contacted Scripps Institute regarding their recommendation on placement of sand from the Batiquitos Lagoon - possibly by Ron Flick. 2. Woodward-Clyde has been active at the beach between Tamarack and Oak taking test borings and surveying in preparation for the sea wall design. 3. Concern was expressed as to whether building the sea wall will make the beach conditions worse. 4. The question was raised as to who will replenish sand on the beaches in Carlsbad in the future. 5. Some members felt that the State or Federal government should assume financial responsibility for the beaches. 6. BEACh may be the only group with enough political clout to affect any effective program for beach maintenance. Committee proceeded into a work session on the report for the City Council with inputs received from the new members Gary Nessim, Pearl Johnson and David Castel.
