DATE OF MEETING: December 1 1 , 2001
TIME OF MEETING: 4:00 p.m.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Members: Ed Andrews, John Bettis, Bud Carroll, Richard Erhardt, Bruce Macklin, Robert
Prohaska, Norine Sigafoose,
Absent: None
Guests: Mike Howes and Eric Munoz
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the November 1 3, 2001 meeting were approved 5-0.
1. 2002 MEETING SCHEDULE: Committee members approved a monthly meeting schedule (2nd
Tuesday of the month 4:00 -5:30 p.m.) by a 5-0 vote.

2. OFFSHORE PROJECTS: Chair Andrews suggested the following categories; Technical,
Social/Economic and Political. The Committee discussed which project category they were interested
in working on. The Committee will discuss in further proposed project assignments at the January 8,
2002 meeting.
OLD BUSINESS:
o Coastal Disaster Conference - February 24-27, 2002 - Three Committee members expressed
interest in attending. The remaining Beach Erosion budget can handle 1 member attending.
Member Earhardt was chosen to attend.
NEW BUSINESS:
o Name Change Agenda Bill - Staff member Jantz will process agenda bill for the new name,
Beach Preservation Commission.
o Public Workshop - Staff member Jantz advised the Committee about the upcoming Inventory
and Evaluation of Habitats and other Environmental Resources in San Diego Regions
Nearshore Coastal Zone. It will be held January 3, 2002, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Encinitas City
Hall, Poinsettia Room.
COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS:
Subcommittee reports - None
Beach Ecology Education Program - Member Andrews will reported status of potential planting
project at the seawall. A meeting is scheduled with Parks and Recreation with City staff to discuss
the project.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
o Guest Eric Munoz gave the Committee status updates on:
1. Beach Measurements - Beach Measurements are on a regular schedule and being
documented.
2. Caulerpa Taxifolia. - Eric is attending a Public Workshop on this subject, tonight
12/11/01. He will also be discussing it at the New Zealand Conference on Coastal
Issues, April 8-12, 2002. He will be checking on New Zealand's sand retention
devices and report back to the Committee.

NEXT MEETING
By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m. The next meeting of the Beach Erosion
Committee will be Tuesday, January 8, 2001 at the City of Carlsbad Faraday Administration Building.
