DATE OF MEETING: January 8, 2002

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.

Present: Members: Ed Andrews, Bud Carroll, Richard Erhardt, Norine Sigafoose,
Absent: John Bettis, Robert Prohaska, Bruce Macklin
Guests: Ray Duncan, Mike Howes and Eric Mufioz
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the December 12, 2001 meeting were approved 4-0.
1. SANDAG Shoreline Preservation Committee: Staff provided a brief summary of the Shoreline
Preservation Committee meeting of January 3, 2002. The highlights included a final report on the
Regional Beach Sand Project, and initial discussions of various types of taxes or exactions that could
be applied as a funding mechanism for future regional sand nourishment projects.
2. Goals and Objectives for 2002: The Committee discussed revisions to their 2002 Goals and
Objectives. The Committee provided the comments to staff and requested that the final version be
scheduled for final review and adoption at their February 12, 2002 meeting.
OLD BUSINESS:
0 Coastal Disaster Conference - Staff submitted the conference request for funding and will
report back to member Erhardt when completed.
0 Name Change Agenda Bill - Staff member Jantz indicated that the agenda bill is in process and
will follow-up on any necessary changes.
0 Opportunistic Sand Program - Staff stated that a Public Agency Scoping meeting is scheduled
for January 16, 2002. Member Carroll stated that he will be attending the meeting representing
the Committee.

COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS:
Subcommittee reports - None
Beach Ecology Education Program - Member Andrews reported status of potential planting project at
the seawall.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None

By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m. The next meeting of the Beach Erosion
Committee will be Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at the City of Carlsbad Faraday Administration Building.
