DATE OF MEETING: November 8,2005
TIME OF MEETING: 4:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present Members: Ed Andrews, Dick Erhardt, Jon Campbell, Mike Sullivan, Bud Carroll and
Angela Lockhart
Absent Members: Bruce Macklin
Guests: Chrystine Zermeno
Staff: Steve Jantz
Belinda Guzman
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
By proper motion (Campbell/Lockhart) the minutes of the October 25, 2005 meeting were approved by
a 6-0 vote.
1. CARLSBAD BEACH ECONOMIC STUDY: The Committee discussed the draft Carlsbad Beach
Economic Study prepared by Dr. King. After considerable discussion, the BPC comprised the
attached list of comments and revisions for Dr. King to incorporate into the study.
2. CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Mr. Steve Aceti, CalCoast Executive Director was
unable to attend and will reschedule for a future meeting.
3. CITY COUNCIL PRESENTATION: The Committee tabled the discussion to the December
meeting when the revised Dr. King Study is available. The BPC Committee will email staff member
Jantz any proposed outline ideas.
4. AG MITIGATION MEETING: Chair Erhardt provided a brief summary on the development of the
Ag Mitigation Committee Program.
5. PROGRAM/PROJECT UPDATES:
• Opportunistic Sand Program Update - Tabled to the December 13 meeting.
• Public Outreach Update - Tabled to the December 13 meeting.
6. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS:
• Member Carroll recommended a book to the BPC, titled "California and the World Ocean 2" by
Orville T. Magoon as valuable resource, and notified the BPC of the upcoming World Ocean
2006 Conference schedule for September 2006.
• The Committee inquired about the annual renewal of the American Beach and Shore
Preservation memberships. Staff member Jantz will handle as the item is in the Beach
Preservation Committee budget.
7. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING
By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m. The next meeting of the Beach Preservation
Committee will be Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. in the City of Carlsbad Faraday
Administration Building, Room 173-A (1635 Faraday Avenue, Carlsbad, 92008).
