1. BEACH WALK EVENT UPDATE: Committee chair O'Hara provided a summary of the
Beach Walk event held on April 19th. Comments from the committee included: there were
other competing programs on the event day (Carroll), an earlier start with the permit process
would provide a better location for next year (Rocco), better coordination with other clean up
activities might yield a higher response rate (O'Hara), and a change in the name to what the
event will actually be. A few Committee members commented on the fabulous job the San
Diego office of the State Parks and Recreation did with special thanks to Brian Ketterer.
O'Hara recommends, with the approval of the committee, we continue to do this event and
make minor changes in the future to grow on our first experience.
2. CITY COUNCIL PRESENTATION: The Committee reviewed the draft City Council
presentation on their past programs and upcoming work efforts. A lengthy discussion was
held regarding slides, photos, statements, and what the Committee is hoping to obtain with
this presentation. All members of the Committee are asked to attend the City Council
meeting on May 20th.
3. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS: Committee member Carroll spoke about being
approached by Kirk Burkhart, Carlsbad Convention & Visitors Bureau, regarding the Clean
Beach Councils' Certification Program. Staff member Jantz suggested this item be referred to
the State.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT: Guest Benson expressed his appreciation for letting him attend and
participate in the meeting.
