1. CITY COUNCIL PRESENTATION:
• The Committee watched the New Community Update Video that featured the
Committee and the recent Beach Walk. The Committee was very pleased regarding the
overall message, information, and the coverage in the video.
• The Committee watched the presentation to the City Council and discussed the
council's reaction to it. Committee chair O'Hara spoke about her meeting with City
Manager Lisa Hildabrand, which took place prior to the council meeting. Three major
areas to work on were discussed:
Recommended by Council, the Committee should coordinate with the
lagoons and the lagoon foundations. Committee member Huff volunteered to
take the lead on this area. The lagoons will have a spot on each month's
agenda to discuss updates, current events and other items that pertain to the
Committee helping the lagoons.
• Recommended by Council, the Committee to research and make
advisements regarding off shore reefs and sand retention. Staff member
Jantz will do some research on this issue to present to committee next
meeting. Guest Fassardi will make a presentation regarding what other cities
and countries are doing for sand retention, at the August meeting.
• Recommended by O'Hara, a visioning session will be scheduled to revise the
scope of the Committee to include the new areas the Council has asked the
Committee to advise on.
• The Committee will continue to work on the previous goals and ideas along with the new
items suggested by the Council. The Committee's continued drive to open
communication with the state has prompted another addition to the monthly agenda.
State representative, Brian Ketterer, will now have a time to update the committee on all
the State's upcoming events and progress.
2. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS:
. The Parks and Recreation Commission asked the Committee to give the City Council
presentation, with some modifications, on June 16, 2008.
. Committee member Huff would like some thought put into a "Beach Meetup" or some
other cleanup event that would increase outreach and education to citizens. Committee
Chair O'Hara recommended using the Keep California Clean site; they will post for free
and donate the materials needed. Staff member Jantz will look into funding.
