DATE OF MEETING: May 12, 2009
TIME OF MEETING: 4:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present Members: Dick Erhardt, Bud Carroll, Matt Rocco, Ed Andrews, and Angela
O'Hara
Absent Members: Mat Huff
Guests: Brian Ketterer, Jayme Timberlake
Staff: Steven Jantz (absent) and Jayme Foster
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the March 10, 2009 meeting were approved 4-0
(Erhardt/Carroll).
1. SHORELINE AND NEARSHORE DATA SYSTEM (SANDS): Claudio Fassardi, Halcrow
Group Ltd., was unable to attend the meeting, his brief presentation on their SANDS software
program was postponed until July's meeting.
2. CARLSBAD BEACH FEST: The Committee spoke about the success of the May 2, 2009,
Beach Fest and looked at photos. More advertising, traffic issues and other improvements for
next year's event were discussed. Committee Chair O'Hara will draft a letter of thanks to the
State Parks and the letter will be signed by some of the City Council.
3. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS:
• Lagoon Committee Report - There is a scheduled June 5th, CLAW meeting at Aqua
Hedionda.
• State Parks Report - State Representative Ketterer reported that all Lifeguards towers are
in place and staffed for the weekends. Donated cigarette containers have rusted and
replacements are being made in larger quantity. Pack it in, Pack it out program is going
well with no complaints or any increase of trash and plans are in place for busy, holiday
weekends. Ponto Beach was named Best Restored Beach for 2009 by the American
Shore and Beach Preservation Association.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING
By proper motion, the meeting was adjourned at 5:04 p.m. The next meeting of the Beach
Preservation Committee will be Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the City of Carlsbad
Faraday Administration Building, Room 173-A (1635 Faraday Avenue, Carlsbad, 92008).
